Facilitation

Using peer learning to help the planet

As a facilitator and learning designer for the Money Movers programme, I helped women overcome taboos around money, and talk about their finances for the good of the planet.

Developed by Huddlecraft and licensed by Friends of the Earth, this peer group programme brought people together to explore how to choose greener options for their bank accounts, pensions and savings
My role involved helping design and prototype activities to support the peer learning aspect of the journey. I then trained women to host their own groups, and coached them as they recruited for and ran a series of sessions.

Running a retreat to fix a team in crisis

I was asked to design and deliver a critical retreat for a high profile, time-poor team in crisis.

In just 24 hours, I had to support them to build trust, create space for relationships to be repaired, and identify key priorities for how they could work together moving forward.

Working closely with a co-facilitator, we designed a series of activities that supported people to share their experiences vulnerably, spend meaningful time together and give honest feedback.

There was a lot of laughter, and also tears. One team member said those 24 hours had done more to accelerate trusting relationships than six months working in an office together.

Facilitating an away day for charity trustees

A national charity commissioned me to run a strategic away day for its board. The trustees had busy, demanding jobs and met in person just once or twice a year. So, there was high pressure for the day to be meaningful and to use their time well.

I worked closely with the CEO to understand the dynamics of the board, and the focus and priorities for the day. Then, I designed and facilitated a series of activities to help achieve the desired outcomes, and build relationships and trust.

Afterwards, I shared a report with the CEO and Chair of trustees documenting key outcomes from the discussions.

Running a learning network for a major funder

Groups, organisations and communities can deepen the impact they have by learning from one another. That’s why I specialise in peer group learning.

My work includes running a learning network for grantees of a major funder, many of which are small, founder-led charities.

We offer training, learning and coaching opportunities, create spaces for organisations to share their practice, and support them to run and participate in peer-to-peer learning. We also run regional and national networking events.
